Best plays for The Valley
There will be two unique meetings in Hong Kong this week with racing set for Tuesday at Happy Valley and Saturday at Sha Tin.
For tonight, eight races will be held over the “C” course at the city circuit.
Joao Moreira returns after suffering from chest pain and will be fully booked.
The other two jockeys to monitor are Zac Purton and Derek Leung, who are also with plenty of chances.
Zac Purton is now leading the jockeys’ championship and 6 of his 8 mounts today are trained by local trainers.
His best chances come from the starstudded Frankie Lor stable.
Happy Valley Race 3 #4 Kokushi Musou $4.80
Kokushi Musou broke his maiden over this same course and distance on the 16th of March.
He then took the step up to Class 4 company and ran 2nd under Alexis Badel again.
Those 2 good runs were both jumping from gate 1. At his past two starts he has drawn wide and never been able to get into the race.
For tonight, he has drawn the prized gate 1 again and can make amends for his past two runs.
Returning back to his favourite trip, after a good trackwork performance, he's a great chance to win once again.
Happy Valley Race 8 #6 Gorgeous Vitality $2.50
Gorgeous Vitality has improved vastly since Zac Purton took the reins in late April.
He won easily at his last two starts, both by more than 3 lengths.
This is his first time racing in Class 3, but this up-and-coming 3YO will only carry 126 pounds.
After breaking from barrier 6, he can sit midfield with cover before showing a good dash in the home straight.
Happy Valley Race 6 #6 Magic Phoenix $4.80
A tough-looking race but Magic Phoenix can land his breakthrough success.
This son of Choisir is unexposed after a handful of starts in Hong Kong and is once again reunited with Blake Shinn.
The Australian was on board for his best run so far, a course and distance second to Valiant Elegance two runs back.
He was disappointing last time but that was on yielding ground and we will see a return to form on this firmer surface.
Happy Valley Race 7 #10 Win Win Fighter $8.50
Win Win Fighter has really turned a corner and can win for the second time in three runs.
His improvement has come over this course and distance, winning impressively two starts back under Blake Shinn.
The Francis Lui 4YO went up 7Ib for that success, but he ran well next time when 4th to Dr Winning under Karis Teetan.
Zac Purton sat up and took notice of that effort as he takes over for the first time and he's determined to win another jockeys' championship.
Barrier 10 is a wide draw but less of a problem over 1650m, and Purton is one of the best jocks in the world.
