Scone's Best Bets
Racing heads to Scone this Saturday for one of the most anticipated provincial meetings of the year.
With the track expected to sit in the Soft range and only light showers forecast, conditions should provide a fair surface for all runners.
Mick Gannon has zeroed in on two key chances later in the program, including one in the feature event.
Both horses look well placed with ideal setups to strike at good prices.
Mick Gannon's Best Bet for Scone Saturday 17/5/25
Mick continues to nail his best bets at a good rate!
Race 7 – #1 Amelita $5.50
In what shapes as arguably the race of the day, expect a genuine tempo to set things up perfectly for the backmarkers.
This Chris Waller-trained filly is yet to break through this preparation but is racing in career-best form, and her recent ratings suggest she’s more than capable of winning here.
With a strong turn of foot and the speed map in her favour, Amelita looks perfectly poised to storm home late and blow past her rivals.
She’s a top chance to break through for a deserved win.
Race 10 – #16 Gallant Star $4.00
Gallant Star was brave last start when finishing just 0.2 lengths off Cool Jakey on a Heavy 8 at Hawkesbury.
While he handles heavy ground, his career peak figures have come on Soft tracks, which is exactly what he should find on Saturday.
Dropping back to 1300m fourth-up and at peak fitness holds no concerns, especially with a favourable speed map.
From barrier 5 and carrying just 53kg, he’ll settle on-speed and get every chance in transit.
Look for him to be right in the finish.
