Caulfield Tips
Scissor Step
The McEvoy yard is placing them to perfection and looks to have found another very winnable race with this runner.
He won well first-up at Sandown, then took on a good quality field at Flemington where not all went to plan.
Back to his preferred track at Caulfield, this should make all the difference.
His recent tick-over trial since his last outing indicates that the yard is serious here.
The Shaper
Interesting runner who has been a significant long price mover off a huge opening price of $20.
The nature of the “first cut” by bookmakers, straight to $7.50, indicates a very sharp name took the opening price and forced the big change.
He was well supported late ($4 into $3.50) in betting last start at Cranbourne when just missing (2 of 5), after doing all the donkey work outside the leader.
Given a more charmed run here, he could be the big improver.
El Soleado
Has an exceptional strike rate winning 6 from 17 career starts and placing another 6 times also.
He is now rock-hard fit following plenty of recent racing and can capitalise on the weaker off-season racing.
He won well at Bendigo last start overcoming a torrid wide run throughout to still prevail, showcasing his ability under pressure.
He can go back-to back here.
Gates
He should be reaching peak fitness now he is fourth-up in this preparation and does stretch out again to what should be a more suitable 2000m distance.
He ran well over 1600m last start at Mornington where he chased hard and just needed more runway to be taking ground off the leaders.
From the mid-draw in barrier 9 they should be positive and look to find a mid-field position with cover, where from the moving line they can strike as they please.
Hawkesbury Tips
Cable Express
This is an ominous long price move in from the generous opening quote of $41, where bookmakers clearly got this wrong.
He led and won with ease at Wagga last start and although this is a significant leap in class, he must be showing them plenty at home to warrant a trip to town.
They have drawn wide in gate 15, however with natural tactical speed he should have the ability to carve across the face of this field and take up the premier position leading.
Note: He is also dual accepted at the Wagga meeting on Friday.
Shadows Of Love
Has been racing well all preparation winning 2 of 3 starts and wasn't far off them at Randwick (3 of 15).
With Tim Clark booked they will ride the horse in a positive fashion from the ideal draw (barrier 5) and they can sit just in behind the leading pair.
This is a deep race however he appears to receive all favours here including a dream speed map.
Shwarz
Motivation will be high with this galloper who was a high price yearling purchase for the Rosemont Alliance syndicate.
He has won 2 and placed once from 5 career starts and looks to building a base to launch at the coveted Group 1.
If he is to create a stallion profile, he will be fully wound up and ready to go here in Group 3 company.
They need to get some runs on the board if this colt is to make it to stud.
Manwe
Anthony Cummings runner where although the stable do mix their form, usually take a good horse to this flagship Saturday stand-alone meeting at Hawkesbury.
There were genuine excuses last start when he did run last (9 of 9) at Canterbury after blowing the start and never a hope after that point.
With luck here he has plenty of upside.
This horse has a number of the trainer’s best clients involved and he will be highly motivated to win, where from the early price action is appears Anthony has told them all to have a bet!
