Flemington Firmers
Punters have again trimmed up the mis-priced runners offered in early markets, with a number of key betting moves identified below.
At Flemington a key Godolphin runner drops back from stakes grade and appears “cherry ripe” to be winning here.
Whilst at Rosehill a class Waller runner looks to have dodged the Brisbane carnival for an easier kill at home.
Flemington Tips
Riff Rocket
Waller runner in Melbourne where the stable are starting to hit top form!
He hit the line hard in the debut win at Geelong last start, where showed he is likely to be above average and genuine city class.
The step up to 1400m looks ideal now, as he does come out of a very fast run race last time out and should be suited by the extra test in stamina.
First Immortal
Was well backed ($2.80 into $2.50) to win at Morphettville last start where possibly beaten (2 of 8) by a good one in Silent Surrente.
He is much fitter now with the perfect base for the Flemington 2000m can improve again here.
From the mid-draw (gate 8) expect they find a perfect trailing position mid-field in the moving line, before peeling to win at just the right time.
Renosu
Godolphin runner who has contested Stakes grade at his past two starts and drops back in grade to Benchmark level here.
He went forward last start and was caught wide, yet still showed fight in a brave effort when only beaten 2 lengths to finish 4 of 16.
Given more luck here and with the added fitness expect they can lead and be too strong off the front.
Yes.
Pinstriped
Quality galloper who was ultra-dominant winning at Sandown last start when the market loved him ($3.50 into $3 late).
This looks a touch harder to my eye now up to Benchmark 100 unrestricted grade, however he does have excellent Stakes form prior, and should again race well.
The rider should be looking for a midfield trailing position with cover and from there peel with plenty of time to run home over the top.
Rosehill Tips
Devils Throat
Team Snowden runner who has always shown good ability and does enjoy this distance (9:2-2-0).
The first up stats (3:1-1-0) also say yes, and expect the stable have him fully wound up with good intent to be shown by the rider.
They should receive the perfect run from gate 2, and can choose to lead or sit just in behind.
Union Gap
Is searching for the hat-trick here following two impressive wins to kick off this preparation.
He was excellent last start from a close-to-speed position in a fast run race at Warwick Farm, where showed plenty of fight!
He may be well above average and could progress quickly through the Saturday city grades.
Yes.
Wicklow
Last start Wagga Gold Cup winner who is from the gun Waller yard and probably wasn’t far off a Brisbane Winter carnival trip.
They have opted for the easier option here and he may benefit greatly from that shrewd decision.
He looks the class runner and should chalk up back-to-back wins here.

California Surreal
Did enough first up at Gosford where got back and charged late in a slow run race, where it was near impossible to make ground from well back, given the lack of speed.
He should strip much fitter for this and does go well second up (3:0-2-0).
Given more tempo here I expect he will be very well suited and can steam home over the top.
