$17 pop goes on top
Hong Kong racing is back to Happy Valley tonight with 9 races set for decision on the “C” Course.
Michael Dee is riding at his first Hong Kong meeting tonight.
He has landed 3 mounts from David Hayes, including Starry Night, Lean Hero and Sight Hero.
This 27-year-old is having a great season in Australia and is also likely to perform well on his Happy Valley debut.
Happy Valley Race 3 #3 Lean Hero $6.50
Lean Hero is Micky Dee's second ride for tonight and comes up with the great draw of barrier 1.
This should not only give him a great run throughout but grant him the perfect set-up to win.
This David Hayes-trained colt returned from surgery last start finishing 6th at Sha Tin over the 1200m.
He clearly needed the run and all things considered, chased well to finish 6th.
He now steps up to the 1650m at The Valley, a course and distance he has previously won at.
It's great to see him back on the track and granted his fitness has been kept up to the mark since his last run he can win tonight.
A promising 3YO to keep an eye on.
Happy Valley Race 8 #3 Magniac $2.80
Magniac is a former Western Australia horse that showed his talent in Australia, winning 3 races from a front running position.
That now seems ages ago since he has since come to Hong Kong and joined the Jamie Richards stable.
He is loving life in Hong Kong, particularly at Happy Valley with a 3rd and a 1st in two career starts at the track.
His last start victory was visually impressive, romping home by 2L and has since been given a 35-day freshen-up.
He trialled well on 12 May and has since gained 21 pounds during this period, which should be a good sign for an up-and-coming 3YO.
Zac Purton remains on board and gate 8 should not be a big concern as he has good gate speed to overcome it.
Looks the bet of the night.
Happy Valley Race 7 #9 So Awesome $17.00
Let's take a chance with So Awesome for Manfred Man.
The son of Rip Van Winkle was a capable but frustrating horse for Me Tsui and went 18 races without success for his former trainer.
With the switch to Man, he shed the maiden tag second-up and added a course and distance success in February last year.
With only two runs this season, the selection arrives fresh and ran encouragingly last start when finishing eighth to Kokushi Musou over this track and trip.
Off a 2Ib low mark, he is reunited with Matthew Chadwick who was onboard for his last victory and he can outrun his odds in this competitive race.
Happy Valley Race 8 #8 Act Of Faith $7.50
Magniac will be a warm order to go back-to-back under Zac Purton but the suggestion is Act Of Faith, one of two strong candidates for John Size.
The selection ran below par last time but worked hard to reach the front and the tank was empty in the straight.
Prior to that, he was placed three times with the best run last month when narrowly denied by Xponential.
With Karis Teetan now riding Copartner Ambition this looks like an excellent opportunity for Brenton Avdulla to secure a first success in Hong Kong.
Size is also represented by A Americ Te Specso, a track and trip winner three weeks ago and respected up in grade.
