This is the summer grass seeding period for both Sha Tin and Happy Valley’s turf tracks, so it will be an all-weather meeting at Sha Tin today.
It has been quite wet recently in Hong Kong, but the rain stopped yesterday, so the all-weather ground will be in good condition.
The current leading jockey Zac Purton also has the best results over the dirt, followed by Karis Teetan and then Angus Chung.
For trainers, two locals Frankie Lor and Benno Yung are the top two, while Caspar Fownes is ranked the third.
Sha Tin Race 5 #5 Gummy Gummy $1.80
Gummy Gummy was named Calgary Stampede in Australia and ran 10th in the Inglis Millenium.
He then moved to Queensland and ran 2nd in the listed Oxlade Stakes.
He has settled well in Hong Kong and has been unlucky to not break through with 3 consecutive seconds in a row.
In the 3 events, he was beaten by some in-form horses including Brave Star and Youthful Deal.
Zac Purton retains the ride on board this Benno Yung runner, and it is worth noting the horse has also performed well on a night meeting before.
He will jump from gate 4 and likely land the rail behind the leaders.
This will be a nice position for him to score his first Hong Kong victory.
Sha Tin Race 7 #3 Erimo $5.00
Erimo scored 2 wins earlier in this season, but then struggled to win again as top weight.
After running unplaced several times, he got a weight drop back to 130 pounds and the results immediately showed running second on the all-weather track.
Erimo today will be ridden by Alexis Badel and he will carry 132 pounds this time.
He will be competitive from gate 5 and lands a great chance to return to the victory stalls.
Sha Tin Race 1 #3 M M Nebula $7.50
Let's take a chance by having a selection in a class 5 at a decent-looking price.
M M Nebula may not be as fast as Lucky Sweynesse, but they're both trained by Manfred Man and perhaps he can strike on start number 12.
The Hinchinbrook gelding has bits and pieces of fair form and runs off a new career low mark.
His latest run, a never nearer fifth to Sunshine Legendary, was a step in the right direction and Derek Leung is booked for the first time.
He is unexposed on the all-weather and his last run on this course and distance was a creditable fifth behind Adefill.
Class-droppers Fingers Crossed and Starry Night look interesting on their best form.
Sha Tin Race 6 Gummy Gummy $1.80
Gummy Gummy has been banging on the door in search of his first win and the door can finally open.
The Benno Yung 3YO is 0-6 in Hong Kong but has finished second in three of them.
His last two runs have been over track and trip where he's bumped into the very progressive Youthful Deal, a sprinter in excellent heart for Frankie Lor.
Without his nemesis to worry about, the path looks clear for him to win under Zac Purton.
The selection has frustratingly gone up 5Ib in his last three races but still looks open to plenty of improvement from his favourable barrier.
The consistent Winning Icey and Everyone's Victory can also run well.
