Hong Kong Racing Best Bets
Hong Kong returns to Happy Valley with 9 races on the “C” course.
There are expected to be a few showers on Wednesday morning, but they will not affect the track.
Joao Moreira scored 4 wins at the last meeting at Sha Tin and is now leading the jockey premiership with 119 victories.
The magic man will have 9 rides today with 4 of them trained by John Size.
They are a powerful combination together and look likely to have a big night out.
Happy Valley Race 2 #3 Loyal Ambition $4.40
It will be Loyal Ambition’s third time racing in Class 5 and his prior form has proved that his billing of top weight doesn't matter.
Last start he took the lead over 2200m, but couldn't see out the distance fading in the straight.
He only finished 2.7 lengths off the winner and overall it wasn't a bad effort.
He returns to 1800m for this contest and will be more suited at this trip.
Joao Moreira sticks again and he can get to the rail easily thanks to the soft draw of barrier 4.
With the expected economical run in transit, he can break his maiden in Hong Kong.
Happy Valley Race 3 #4 Fa Fa $4.80
The course and distance specialist Fa Fa returns where he has 5 wins and 1 second from 6 starts.
Being one of the top-rated 4YO in this season, Fa Fa participated in the 4YO Classic Series but did not excel on the Sha Tin surface.
During the 2-month spell, he rested at Conghua and won a barrier trial on the 13th of May.
It's an interesting move to have Matthew Chadwick on board.
He rode the gelding in an impressive gallop before this race.
There is a small field of 7 in Race 3, giving Fa Fa every chance to bounce back in the weak field.
Happy Valley Race 5 #6 Inestimable $14.00
A tough-looking card at The Valley so I'm looking for value and landed with Inestimable.
The David Hayes 4YO appears to be finding his level and ran well two runs back.
He jumped from barrier 10, over this course and distance, and with a bit of luck could have improved his final placing.
Last start he found things happening too quickly over 1000m but was only beaten 3 lengths.
He has now dropped another 2Ib for today and races off a career-low mark.
He rises back up in trip with connections continuing to claim off apprentice Jerry Chau.
If he can slot into the running line, he can extend in the straight to put in a competitive effort.
Happy Valley Race Race 7 #6 Excellent Peers $2.40
This time it's a more predictable selection with Excellent Peers the pick under João Moreira.
The 4YO was formerly with Ricky Yiu but this marks his second start for Frankie Lor.
Running on yielding ground hasn't suited at her last two runs but conditions look ideal this time.
Connections stay at The Valley over the 1200m trip and breaking from barrier 1 is a bonus, with 'The Magic Man' sure to give him every chance.
