Best bets for the Wagga Carnival

In a blink of an eye, we arrive at the two-day Wagga Carnival.

The weather has been cooling off as we creep closer to winter and with significant rain about, the track is now rated a Heavy 9.

The rail will be in the true position for both days, which we have not seen at Wagga since late last year.

With the lovely spacious straight that the track offers, I expect all horses to get their chance.

Below are my two best bets for each day of the Carnival.

Kurt has amassed a tidy 41% POT from 40 tips over the past 90-days!

Thursday Wagga Race 4 Tip #4 Fat Gecko $5.00

Danielle Seib heads down the Hume Highway from Goulburn with only the one runner for Town Plate Day.

His last start was over the 1000m, where he drew barrier 12 and was forced to race wide throughout.

The effort to run into third on that occasion was nothing short of impressive.

He's now drawn perfectly in barrier 2, which will allow Winona Costin to find a forward position in the run.

This is Costin's third ride on this horse so she now knows him well, which is a significant plus.

With the gun run in transit, I expect the son of Nicconi to kick hard late and prove too strong for his rivals.

Thursday Wagga Race 6 Tip#2 Jodhpur $3.00

The ever-consistent Jodhpur finds a suitable race here and looks set to notch up win number three.

The locally trained gelding can find a bit of trouble due to his back-marker racing style, but his record of 8:2-4-1 suggests he's a genuine galloper.

This horse loves the cuddled-up style of racing and he looks perfectly suited here.

Shelby Sixtysix, Nobele Belle and Hemsted will contest the lead, which will allow Jodhpur to sit last with cover after jumping from barrier 9.

Mathew Cahill has a great relationship with the Donelly stable and in a good push for this galloper, he sticks solid here.

Look for the green silks to be flying late!

Friday Wagga Race 2 Tip #4 Nuremburg Castle $3.00

Gun Canberra trainer Matthew Dale saddles up the son of Holy Roman Emperor, who is looking to go one better here.

He ran a nice second last start and with even luck, he would have been in the winner's circle.

He didn't obtain clear running until late in that race but once clear, he ran through the line like a train.

Young gun jockey Nick Heywood sticks with him and from the soft draw in barrier 2, he looks set to get a soft run in transit.

The obvious query is the Heavy track, but I'm willing to gamble on his raw ability getting him home here.

He looks the class runner of the race and with even luck, should prove too good.

Friday Wagga Race 3 Tip#5 Bezazzalled $5.50

Phil Sweeney brings his well-travelled gelding to Wagga.

This is one genuine galloper who always gives it his all, even in defeat. At his last four-starts, he's finished within 2.5-lengths of the winner  including a seventh at Sandown Hillside two starts ago,

The speed looks moderate here and from barrier 9, I expect jockey Tyler Schiller to follow noted front runner Fermanagh Lad across to sit outside the lead.

It will be a slog-fest in the last 100m, but I expect this guy to be fighting all the way to the line.
