Value Hunting
Rosehill plays host to one of the best days on the Australian racing calendar on Saturday, with 5 Group 1's giving punters plenty to get excited about.
Two of the time honoured classics are the George Ryder Stakes and The Galaxy.
Both events have attracted top tier competitors and I've unearthed some value on what shapes as a belter of a day.
Track Conditions
The Rosehill track is currently rated a Soft 7 with the rail out 2m for the entire circuit.
Scattered showers are expected for the remainder of the week and into Saturday.
The long turn prior to the straight often causes headaches for those worse than midfield.
The rain affected conditions will lessen any 'leaders bias', giving every horse their chance.
Refer to the early races for a good guide on how the track is performing.
Rosehill Race 7 - George Ryder Stakes 1500m (Group 1 WFA)
The Map
- Forbidden Love (2) and Riodini (9) will punch forward from their draws to sit 1-2.
- Kolding (5), Hilal (6) and Dalasan (12) won't be far away, however the latter risks being caught three wide with a poor jump.
- Private Eye (1) will likely find himself in a tricky position three back the inside.
- Colette (3) and Mo'unga (4) can all get lovely trailing runs, outside the speed with cover.
- If Dalasan pushes forward Law of Indices (11) can land the perfect trailing position three wide in the moving line
The Early Favourite
Mo'unga ($4.20) is a superstar stallion who will have a long queue booked once he gets sent to stud.
He enters this contest on the back of a blistering finish at Caulfield, in the Group 1 Futurity Stakes behind Sierra Sue.
He has an electric turn of foot and handles all weather conditions.
One of the key factors in his favour is his love for Rosehill, a track where most of his opposition here have struggled.
From the soft draw, he will get every chance.
Best Racing Tips
Law Of Indices gets one final chance rising in distance. The talent is there, but he has managed to pick up a few uneasy quirks in recent runs.
At his last start, connections wanted to ride him more forward but that didn't eventuate.
With a better get away here, jockey Mark Zahra can get him in a trailing position midfield, three wide with cover. If he gets him to the centre of the track, he can run a bottler at a big price.
He has strong form-lines through the 1500m Golden Eagle.
Mo'unga looks primed for a big run second -up. He loves the Rosehill circuit and will get a brilliant run in transit. From the evenly priced group of favourites, he's the one I want to be on.
Colette was given no chance of winning last start, after being stuck behind a wall of horses. We all know she's a swimmer, so the wetter the better.
She maps for a lovely run and the booking of J Mac gives extra confidence. Sharp improver.
Forbidden Love was outstanding winning the Canterbury Stakes over 1300m at Randwick.
She beat Lighthouse convincingly, who has since gone on to win the Coolmore Classic. There is so much to like about her form-lines, however I can't entertain backing her at the current quote given she despises the long turning Rosehill bend.
- Law Of Indices $16.00
- Mo'unga $4.20
- Colette $7.50
- Forbidden Love $3.80

Rosehill Race 9 - The Galaxy 1100m (Group 1 HCP)
The Map
- There are going to be some fireworks here! In The Congo (2) won't want to forfeit his gun draw, attempting to hold the front / inside from Malkovich (5)
- Overpass (1), Belluci Babe (8), Isotope (10) and Rule Of Law (12) will all push forward attempting to find forward positions.
- Away Game (6), Minhaaj (7) and Ballistic Lover (11) will all get lovely runs behind the hot tempo
The Early Favourite
Isotope ($3.90) is a superstar mare who has ventured south to tackle a stacked field.
She won during the Magic Millions carnival in convincing fashion, beating a luckless Away Game.
She has been given a fresh up and essentially enters this contest first-up.
There is no doubting trainer Tony Gollan would've had this event penned in his calendar for a while.
She will be primed and ready to go, just needs a touch of luck from the tough draw.
Best Racing Tips
Away Game has earnt her connections over $3.6 million in prize money over her career. This purse should be almost twice as much however, considering the amount of luckless placings she's encountered at group level.
She is such a consistent mare and gives her all every time she heads to the races. I love the booking of Linda Meech, who is a great judge of tempo and will give her every possible.
If she can get a clear run at them after the bend... look out!
Isotope is primed for this event. My slight concern is the speed drawn inside him and where he gets to in the run. Kerrin McEvoy will have his work cut out, but he will be almighty hard to topple if he finds an inside position.
The jury is still out as to whether Bella Nipotina enjoys racing clockwise in Sydney. What's not in doubt however, is her electric turn of foot.
She will get one of the most economical runs in transit, just needs the breaks to fly through at huge odds.
In The Congo was one of the stars of the Spring, beating the likes of Anamoe. His biggest trait is not only his speed, but his heart.
He is as strong as an Ox and hates being headed. First-up might be too big of a task but if he is set for this, he will be hard to chase down.
- Away Game $11.00
- Isotope $3.70
- Bella Nipotina $26.00
- In The Congo $12.00
