20/02/21 Best Bets for the Futurity Stakes

Caulfield Race 6 - Futurity Stakes 1400m (G1)

Analysis & Tips 

1^st Behemoth$3.20

I’m extremely bullish about Behemoth’s adding a third Caulfield 1400m Group 1 to his resume here second up.

He’s yet to be defeated at seven furlongs and maps to get a lovely rail run, similar to that seen last year’s Memsie.

Damien Oliver will need to be at his best but I’m confident that the gap will open at the top of the straight.

2^nd Probabeel

The star-kiwi mare was enormous winning the Bellmaine Stakes first up over 1200m.

Her grand final remains next month’s All-Star Mile but there would be no surprises if she can add a third Group 1 to her resume here.

The knock is barrier 9 but there looks to be enough speed to bring those back in the field into calculations.

3^rd Ole Kirk

The Team Hawkes-trained colt returned in superb order last fortnight in the Inglis Sprint over 1200m, producing a flashing light run under James McDonald.

This is his first go at WFA but he’s a high-class colt who I’m all but certain will measure up, stepping out to 1400m.

The only knock is barrier 1 but Kerrin McEvoy can settle nearest to last and produce his mount out wide off a likely genuine tempo.

4^th  Arcadia Queen

She’s the best horse in the race and arguably the country bar Verry Elleegant but I’m happy to lay her here first up.

From barrier 8 she will be forced to settle nearest to last and produce late. Happy to watch her go around, prior to what looks her All-Star Mile to lose.
