Horses to follow from the Mounting Yard

Rosehill Race 1 – Pick of the Yard: #3 Toro Toro

I thought this was a very average mounting yard.

I did not like the parade of the favourite #1 Al Mah Haha, given he was very warm and his coat looked quite dull.

Toro Toro was the stand out, but put in a very disappointing effort and did not run up to his looks.

The winner, If You Think So, was very warm and worked up in the parade. Perhaps this is just his character, because it clearly didn't affect his performance.

Rosehill Race 2 – Pick of the Yard: No bet

The winner, #1 Mallory, is an absolutely beautiful type of horse.

The filly will only improve from this very dominant win.

Definitely one to follow.

Rosehill Race 3 – Pick of the Yard: #9 Home Affairs

Home Affairs was one of the best looking horses all day and I still can’t believe he didn’t win.

I don’t have anything noteworthy to say about the winner, Zethus.

Rosehill Race 4 – Pick of the Yard: #1 Vadiyann

This was the first race of the meeting where we witnessed some very questionable riding tactics.

Vadiyann never had a chance to win after bolting out in front.

#8 Great House won in dominant fashion, despite sweating terribly pre-race. However, this can be common with imports.

Rosehill Race 5 – Pick of the Yard: #5 Marsannay

From the mounting yard, this was a two horse race between Marsannay and eventual winner Shaik.

I went with Marsannay on top due to form, but he was another victim of an average ride.

Shaik had run of the race, and ended up winning comfortably.

Both horses are beautiful types, but I’m not sure the best horse won on Saturday.

Rosehill Race 6 – Pick of the Yard: #9 Moana Jewel

Moana Jewel had no excuses and did not run up to her looks.

The winner, Canasta, was very sweaty pre-race, so I will note this for future as this might be a character trait.

Note, Charretera had one bandage on and didn't perform.

Rosehill Race 7 – Pick of the Yard: #6 Flit

I thought Flit looked exceptional in the mounting yard, but her run was very disappointing.

Savatiano’s parade wasn’t ideal (dull coat and warm), but she proved far too good for them. It was a dominant performance and her parade will only improve.

Kolding looked great first-up and is definitely a horse I want to follow.

Rosehill Race 8 – Pick of the Yard: #1 Frosty Rocks

The winner of this race, Brutality, made an absolute fool out of yard watchers.

He was absolutely dripping in perspiration when parading and had more sweat on him pre-race than post-race.

Frosty Rocks ran his usual honourable race, but faded late.

Rosehill Race 9 – Pick of the Yard: #3 Big Parade

Big Parade didn’t stand out in the mounting yard, and was only just on top in my ratings.

He raced well and battled on for a very tough win.

Meeting summary

Results: 1 winner, 1 second, 2 thirds.

I went into this meeting with very little confidence due to the track condition, and left the track without much success.

Horses that paraded beautifully either didn’t run up to their looks or encountered a rough ride.

Meanwhile, horses that didn’t parade well came out and won – making it a very hard day from the mounting yard.
