Heath's Value Plays
Racing in South Australia heads to the country, with Murray Bridge taking centre stage for its annual big Christmas meeting.
With warm to hot weather and no rain forecast, the track is expected to be at least a Good 3 with the rail out 3m from the 1200m chute and True the remainder.
It’s shaping up as a tough and competitive program, and the spacious layout of Murray Bridge will favour run-on horses.
As such, we’re targeting value each-way plays best suited to these conditions.

Best Bets for Murray Bridge by Heath Pope
Race 3 #5 Jenkins $5.50
The Phillip Stokes trained Jenkins comes into this race following a complete forgive run, where he was given no chance off a painfully slow tempo.
His win prior reads as highly competitive for this level and on his best form, this looks like an extremely suitable assignment.
Although it’s his first start at Murray Bridge, the track’s spacious layout should suit his running style.
Another key positive is the return of Lachlan Neindorf, who has won 2 of his 4 rides aboard Jenkins.
While conceding that the favourite Seeking Stardom will be hard to hold out, it’s worth noting she had everything go her way last start.
In contrast, Jenkins offers terrific value as a 1x3 each-way play.
Race 5 #10 Valentina Charm $5.50
Valentina Charm, an underrated mare from the David Jolly stable, comes into this race off two desperately unlucky placings.
Last start she covered significant ground throughout yet still finished strongly, hitting the line alongside Super Alana, one of this race's main fancies.
Before that, she was enormous when narrowly beaten by the now impressive winner, Seeking Stardom, after racing four-wide without cover the entire trip.
Now back to her favourite track and distance, Valentina Charm gets in well with 55kg and maps to do no work in the run.
She’s the clear best each-way value in the race and looks poised to go close.
