Race 3 #6 – Montepulciano $7.50

Montepulciano is a galloper that can be frustrating to follow, but his two minor placings in his last three runs make him appealing in this spot.

He’s been hitting the line well in those efforts, and both placings came under Manoel Nunes, who retains the ride here.

Dropping to the minimum weight and stepping back up to 2500m are both positives.

The conditions suit, and at the current odds, Montepulciano looks like a no-brainer 1x3 each-way play.

Race 4 #7 – Pool Pony $7.50

Pool Pony comes into this race rock-hard fit, lining up for his third start in just a fortnight.

Two runs back, he hinted at returning to form despite being safely held, and he confirmed that with a big performance last week.

In that run, he stormed home late off a slow tempo, just missing the flying Seeking Stardom in a tougher race than this.

The step up to 1800m should only help, and with just 54kg after the claim, he’s well in at the weights.

Pool Pony looks like a terrific each-way proposition in what shapes as an easier contest.
