Gator's Saturday Best Bets
All ratings for Cranbourne Cup Day are assessed for a Good track.
The rail is out 3m, having been in the True position at the previous meeting, where the track played evenly.
Both leaders and run-on horses had their chances, depending on tempo and ability.
In Sydney, we turn to Kembla Grange, with ratings also based on a Good track.
The rail is back in the True position after being out 9m (1100m to the Winning Post) at the last meeting, where on-pace runners dominated—eight of nine winners sat no worse than third in running.
However, at the previous meeting with the rail in the True position, the track played much fairer, with half the card won by horses running on from off the pace.
David Gately Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets 23/11/24
Bet of the Day (Melbourne)
Cranbourne - Race 8 #2 Baraqiel
Baraqiel comes into this in excellent form.
- Lead-Up Form:
He recorded two strong wins at Moonee Valley, clocking fast times on both occasions. Last start, he stepped up to Group 1 company in the VRC Classic, looming as a winning chance but finding a few elite runners too strong late. - Rider Insight:
His jockey noted that Baraqiel didn’t seem to enjoy the straight at Flemington and should be much better suited returning to racing around a bend.
Baraqiel is well-placed here to bounce back.
Bet of the Day (Sydney)
Kembla Grange - Race 3 #4 Pisanello
Pisanello looks like the clear top pick in this race.
- Recent Performances:
He delivered an excellent return win in sharp time, then stepped up to 1100m at Flemington, where he raced near the inside and still proved too good for his rivals. - Race Conditions:
Drops back to 1000m here and carries 60kg, but his form and ability make him the standout selection.
