8/10/19 Randwick Races: Spring Champion Stakes Nominations & Tips 2019

The Spring Champion Stakes is the feature staying test for the three-year-old's in the Sydney Spring Carnival.

The $1 million race has been won by some of Sydney's finest stayers, including Savabeel (2004), Tie The Knot (1997) and Nothin' Leica Dane (1995).

Nominations for this year's Spring Champion Stakes have been extended until 11am Tuesday 8th October, however currently there are 13 horses nominated for the race.  

The short-priced favourite in all-in betting is the Mark Newnham trained Shadow Hero ($1.70), who comes into this third-up off a dominant 3.3 length win in the Group Three Gloaming Stakes. 

In a positive sign for Shadow Hero, jockey Josh Parr has decided to take the reigns and shun Group One Champagne Stakes winner Castelvecchio, whom he's been on board in six of the colt's seven career starts.   

With 25-45mm of rain forecast to fall in Sydney on Friday and Saturday, it will pay for punters to look deep into breeding as well as the wet track form of each nominated runner before betting into the all-in markets.  

Horse Racing Tip: Quick Thinker $6.00

This Kiwi galloper has impressed at his four-career starts and looks to have untapped ability. 

His only run on a heavy track resulted in a dominant win in the Group Three Ming Dynasty over the Rosehill 1400m. 

He was then left for dead by Shadow Hero on a Good 4 track in the Gloaming Stakes, but can be forgiven for being a little flat off a first-up effort on a heavy track.  

The predicted wet surface is the key here, given he's one of only two runners that are proven in these conditions.   

While the two favourites have a class edge, a wet track can be a great leveller and at the price this colt looks great value.
