Gator's Saturday Best Bets
All ratings for Flemington are for a Good track, with the rail out 9m.
Last week with the rail at 4m the track played fairly in circle races.
Interestingly in straight races, the final event saw the first six home drawn in barriers 1-6.
A result contrary to recent trends.
For Rosehill, ratings are Good/Soft with rain forecast for Friday and potentially Saturday.
The rail is True, following a 4m placement last meeting on a very wet track where horses avoided the inside.
This week, expect the protected inside ground to come into play.
David Gately Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets 18/1/25
Bet of the Day (Melbourne)
Flemington – Race 8 #15 – Deakin
Deakin has plenty of upside heading into this second-up assignment.
He was poleaxed fresh but recovered well to hit the line strongly in fast time, highlighting his quality.
Now stepping up to the mile, he looks well-suited, especially carrying just 53kg after lugging 60kg last start.
With clear running this time, he can make his presence felt and measure up in this field.
Bet of the Day (Sydney)
Rosehill – Race 3 #5 – Polyglot
Polyglot resumes here off a terrific trial win, where he looked sharp under no pressure.
He showed promise in his first preparation, including a solid effort chasing Daggers before fading late behind Growing Empire and others.
Freshened up and back in trip, he’s primed for a big performance first-up, and the form from his first prep suggests he can be highly competitive in this grade.
