The new surface at Caulfield appears no issue for early shoppers, who have been very active in early markets this week.
A big-time owner looks to have opened the shoulders on a team Hawkes runner at the track.
Whilst at Randwick, a Godolphin runner has been singled out for particular attention.
Sir Atlas
Arrives undefeated following wins at all 3 career starts where he has impressed at each, over what appears to be well short of his best distance.
He finally gets out to 1600m and should simply relish the extra journey.
Although drawn wide (gate 16), they will go back anyway and tag the moving line with cover, for an ideal tow-in.
Hazel Baby
Has the hot last start form around Extratwo.
She ran him to a margin of 1.75 lengths when placing 2 of 11 at Sandown.
Although well beaten last time out, it was by a potential superstar and she could be well above average herself.
The heavy investment in a data team allows the stable to place them to perfection and whilst many perceive this as a sharp leap in grade, the ratings must suggest she can win.
Milford
Has been racing well at unsuitable distances and finally gets out to 2000m which looks ideal.
He raced wide and back last start (4 of 13) at Sandown in a slowly run race where he was never a genuine hope considering the set up.
The stable will have had this race the target all along and he should be ready now to peak on the day.
Skywolf
The jockey booking of Blake Shinn says a lot here as he is usually the go to money rider when a horse is ready.
Prominent owner Rupert Leagh has been advised to have a bet here by team Hawkes and they rarely miss when confident.
He drops back in distance from the 1400m of last start and with fitness on their side, they will apply the pressure from a long way out.
Contemporary
Godolphin 3YO who is progressing nicely and comes from a near endless pool of talent.
He only just missed at Rosehill (3 of 9) last start behind the smart Devils Throat, which looks good form for this race.
There appears to be some dynamic moves for the Godolphin runners and someone close to the camp is back on the tipping train.
Ita
Was one of the “big 5” for Bjorn Baker on his huge day here at Randwick’s last Saturday meeting.
She came with an ultra-impressive finishing burst off only a moderate tempo last time and put them away with ease.
The Map looks perfect and from gate 5 she can again sit in behind them with cover “not spending a cent”, before unleashing hell late.
Bazzoka
They don’t come much more lethal than David Payne if the stable decides to bet, which appears the case here.
I love how he is coming out of a fast run race over 1600m and now steps up to the 1800m journey, where if he jumps with them, should be very strong late.
He didn’t have much luck last start after blowing the start and given more favours here he can atone.
Insurrection
Started favourite ($2.40) at Warwick Farm last start and only just missed (2 of 12) after fighting all the way to the line.
He comes out of a fast run race, where the good residual fitness should carry over to this run.
The step up to 1100m looks ideal and he has the tactical speed.
