Drawn in barrier 5, he maps to land on speed in a race full of horses being aimed at the Sires' Produce Stakes, making him the standout runner for a Slipper-bound campaign. With even luck in running, expect Skyhook to take control early and prove too strong late, securing his spot in next week’s Golden Slipper.   Phar Lap Stakes Race 6 #12 Declichy Boulevard $3.40 Declichy Boulevard has progressed beautifully this preparation and now arrives third-up, primed to peak. Her two runs this campaign have been full of merit, highlighting her ability to handle strong competition while building towards a career-best performance over the mile. With James McDonald booked, it's a huge vote of confidence from the stable, and after a luckless run last start, she only needs clear air in the straight to finish over the top of her rivals late. First up at Canterbury she set a blistering front running tempo and was only reeled in by Marhoona in the concluding stages. That runner has since gone on to run second behind the Golden Slipper favourite Tempted. At Autumn Blonde's last start she had no luck being caught three wide the trip.  She stuck on well to finish 4th in a race dominated by swoopers. She now is at peak fitness third up and draws well in barrier 7 to land in the top 4 in running. With even luck in running she can be there come the finishing post.   Maurice McCarten Stakes Race 7 #2 Insurrection $7.00 Big drop in grade here from the Oakleigh plate, when forced to work overtime on speed. He will get a much softer lead here and will likely control the tempo with Coal Crusher up front. With both of the top weighted runners looking to control the race, this should give him every chance to pinch a cheap sectional. The race has been a launching pad for future stars and this year all eyes are on Lady Shenandoah, the boom filly looking to take down the older mares. However, she won’t have it all her way. The surface should play fair, allowing both on-pace runners and those charging from midfield or worse to have their chances. Historically the 1500m start at Rosehill doesn’t heavily favour inside barriers, meaning race positioning and early speed will be key.     Speed Map This year’s Coolmore Classic is shaping up to be a tactically-run affair with multiple runners angling for that charmed run behind the leaders. Grinzinger Belle (12) and Lady Of Camelot (14) will press forward aggressively, with the latter having proven herself at the highest level. Amelia’s Jewel (6) dictated from the front in the Guy Walter Stakes and maps for a sweet run just behind the pace, while Coeur Volante (1) will aim to hold the perfect trail on the rail. There’s a chance Lady Shenandoah (10) could push forward in search of a midfield spot with cover, given she’s tackling older horses for the first time. However if rider James McDonald can't slot in she could be cast wide the trip. Olentia (3) and Scarlet Oak (2) are poised to stalk the leaders, ensuring there’s no let-up in tempo.   The Favourite: Lady Shenandoah $2.40 Lady Shenandoah is shaping up as the next big thing in Australian racing, having strung together four straight wins, including two at Group 1 level. However, this is the first time she takes on older mares and she’s drawn awkwardly in barrier 10. She carries 54.5kg, which isn’t a luxury weight for a three-year-old filly stepping into open company. The other query is whether she can adapt to a high-pressure 1500m race. Her talent is undeniable, and James McDonald’s booking is a big plus, but at the price, there’s enough risk to look elsewhere for value.     Top Four Tips Scarlet Oak $27.00 Scarlet Oak gets a decent weight swing against key rivals and has drawn beautifully in barrier 2. She was strong behind Firestorm first-up, and with Zac Lloyd in the saddle, she maps for a dream run just off the speed. At the price, she’s a sneaky chance to cause an upset. Key Factors: Well-weighted and drawn perfectly Has a turn of foot suited to a fast-run race Genuine lightweight chance with upside.   Lady Of Camelot $7.00 She’s been ultra-consistent at the top level, finishing in the placings in multiple Group 1 races. The 51-week drought without a win is a concern, but she has the class and speed to be in the finish. The wide draw is tricky, but if she finds the front without working too hard, she’ll be tough to run down. Key Factors: Proven in elite company Meets Lady Shenandoah 0.5kg better Handles high-pressure races.   Amelia’s Jewel $5.50 Amelia’s Jewel reminded everyone of her elite ability when taking out the Guy Walter Stakes first-up. She’s a proven weight-for-age Group 1 winner and has a perfect second-up record. The 58kg impost is a test, but from barrier 6, she’ll land in a perfect stalking position behind the leaders. She is going to have first crack in the straight and looks to have returned in stunning order. Key Factors: Top-class mare with the right form. Maps ideally for a soft run. Proven at the level and distance.   Olentia $21.00 This Waller-trained mare is ready to peak third-up. She’s been closing off well in shorter races and gets a 1.5kg swing on Amelia’s Jewel from the Guy Walter Stakes. Barrier 3 is a gift, and she should settle in a dream position with cover. If the favourite falters, she’s the best value play. This week, we have identified two warm favourites who come up at poison odds and look severely over-bet by mug money. Early in the day at Caulfield, the short-priced ($1.50) favourite appears an excellent risk at his first attempt around the track and may drift late as the pro money enters the market. Meanwhile, in the big Group 1 at Rosehill, Chris Waller may have bitten off more than he can chew, entering his gun three-year-old filly against seasoned older horses in the Coolmore.    Jimmy Beeson continues to nail his lays at a good rate. His Early Market Movers drop Friday.   Horse Racing Lays on Saturday Caulfield Race 1 #4 Revelare $1.50 Happy to take on the warm favourite here, as he finally reaches Open Handicap grade after working his way through the grades. Having won his past five starts, he is naturally going to be over-bet by casual punters and bookmakers are likely to keep him artificially short throughout betting. While there’s no doubt he has been impressive in lower grades, this is a completely different challenge as he rises in class and tackles Caulfield for the first time. Caulfield’s tighter turning layout can catch out newcomers, especially those used to more expansive tracks. Unlike Flemington, he won’t have the luxury of a long straight to wind up, making this a tricky debut at the course. At the poison price of $1.50, he looks an excellent risk. Avoid.     Rosehill Race 8 #4 Lady Shenandoah $2.60 She comes up as a great lay, stepping out against seasoned older mares who have the runs on the board and are far better suited for one of the toughest 1500m tests at Rosehill. While she is highly talented, this represents a massive jump in grade and her recent wins suggest this race is more of an afterthought for the stable. By contrast, many of her older rivals have been targeted at this feature for months. Barrier 13 adds another challenge as she typically races back in the field. Rosehill is not the easiest track to make ground on and any traffic issues could be race over. Rated Price: $3.00   Race 3 #2 Geminga $4.20 Geminga resumes here after running some very strong races last prep, often in higher grade company. First-up last time in, she ran second to the smart Reserve Bank while carrying 60kg and conceding 2.5kg to the winner. This time, she gets a more suitable BM68 race and maps to enjoy a soft run over her preferred 1000m trip. Her first-up record (4:1-2-0) suggests she fires fresh and with just even luck in running, she looks well-placed to break through for a win.
