Betting Tips: Early Market Movers at Caulfield and Newcastle 16/11/24
Another two winners last week for our Market Movers formula, correctly nailing the sharp money for Angland and Pisanello.
The early money is flowing this week once again and we have witnessed key market movers.
At Caulfield, Godolphin appear to be targeting the “shoulder season” with a number of their runner swell backed.
While at Newcastle Kris Lees has a big hand where it appears punters believe his horses have been targeted at this day from a long way out.

Caulfield Tips
Ruakaka Raider
The step up to 1700m is ideal following a strong performance at Sale last start, where he hit the line hard from well back.
He hails from a good betting stable known for timing their runs well, and they rarely miss when the money is down. Trust Stackhouse to get the job done for a stable he has had plenty of historical success with.
Pisces
A quality Godolphin runner, Pisces did enough first-up when placing second of seven at Moonee Valley.
He’s the fresh blood in this race, the new contender this preparation, while many of his rivals are further into their campaigns and may be going stale. Although the J Mac factor might compress the price, around the tricky Caulfield track, it could still be worth it.
Kin
Another classy Godolphin raider, Kin looks well suited to this field.
She’s building fitness with two solid runs this campaign and should be ready to peak third-up, suggesting this may have been the target all along. I’m willing to forgive her last start; she’s allowed one sub-par run, and it’s great to see James Cummings targeting the shoulder season to pick off some of the weaker races.
Niance
Niance has worked through the grades nicely and deserves her chance in Saturday Group class.
This isn’t an overly strong Group 3 race, and she looks well-placed by her stable in a field that lacks depth. From a mid-draw (gate 7), she has the tactical speed to go forward and secure a position close to the pace or just behind the leaders.
Newcastle Tips
A Bar In Paris
Bjorn Baker’s speedster must be showing sharpness at home to have warranted solid support here.
Her breed loves shorter sprints, and the 900m dash at Newcastle is perfect for those who can jump and run.
I expect her to jump straight to the lead and be hard to run down.
Snitznova
The Ciaron Maher-trained Snitznova represents Bennett Racing, whose owners are results-driven and committed to the cause.
He was impressive winning last start at the tight Randwick Kensington track and may be even better suited to the larger Newcastle circuit.
It seems likely the stable is giving the new rider chances to build confidence, and this looks like another solid opportunity.
Nikau Spur
A quality galloper who just missed by 0.2 lengths at Eagle Farm last start, charging late to finish second of nine.
With Tim Clark booked for this run, they may ride him a touch closer, which could make all the difference and put him in an ideal position to win.
From gate 4, he should get a perfect trip if he goes forward or takes a sit just behind the lead.
Spangler
Australian Bloodstock would love a runner on their home turf on a big day, likely motivating Kris Lees to set Spangler for this event.
After three solid trial hit-outs, he looks primed to fire first-up, a position he’s performed well in before (5:1-1-0).
He should be fully wound up and ready to go here!

Horse Racing Tips for The Hunter & Beauford 2024
Luke Hovhanesian and Mick Gannon have all the mail you need for a massive day of racing at Newcastle.
Get the inside scoop on their top selections now and make sure you're fully prepared with this comprehensive form guide for the upcoming features.
Race 6 – Trans Tasman Trophy (1850m) – Luke Hovhanesian
Rogue Bear looks a big price getting out to a more suitable distance.
His first-up run after a freshen-up was solid, working home well from the rear of the field.
With the Lees stable beginning to turn their form around, Rogue Bear can make a strong statement here leading into the Summer racing season.
Look for him to settle midfield with cover. He’ll just need a clear path in the straight to be in the finish.
Race 7 – Spring Stakes (1600m) – Luke Hovhanesian
Snitzanova may be coming off a midweek maiden, but the way she dispatched that field suggests she’s ready to step up here.
Last start she overcame a wide draw settling at the rear and circled the field, powering home to score impressively. She draws better here, which should allow her to sit closer in the run, and the step up in distance looks ideal.
Snitzanova shapes up as the best bet of the day on what is a challenging Newcastle card.
Race 8 – The Newcastle Herald Hunter (1300m) – Mick Gannon
Briasa is an impressive colt, steadily building a strong record and arguably should be unbeaten with a bit of luck on his side.
In early betting, he’s been well-backed down to his current price of $2.75, though I’d anticipate a drift closer to race time. That could present a good opportunity to strike again at better odds.
Those who jumped on early with an $8 ticket are sitting in an enviable position—a timely reminder to subscribe to theGreatTipOff's YouTube channel for future tips like these.
Briasa’s last start was at a mid-week meeting, but the way he won and the time he ran in doing so suggest he’s comfortably up to Group 2 level.
The track is currently rated a Soft 6, with the rail in the true position, which should favour runners in lanes 4-10. This set-up suits Briasa, who has drawn barrier 11 and looks poised to find cover in the running line before making a late surge.
He’s a classy prospect yet to reach his full potential. As the deserved favourite, he should be tough to beat with even luck.
Race 9 – The Beauford (2300m) – Mick Gannon
It’s hard to find a more competitive staying race than this. Spirit Ridge should improve second-up, and he’ll likely go forward to settle on pace and give a bold sight.
Herman Hesse is rock-hard fit and ultra-consistent, making him a solid contender.
Stockman can be inconsistent, but his best form would be enough to win this.
At an $11.00 quote, he’s an appealing option.
He maps well for a soft run, likely settling midfield, and while he’ll need some luck getting off the rail on the turn, there are no standout superstars here for him to contend with.
He’s more than capable of finishing over the top.

Race 2 #5 Bluepinot $3.20
This 3YO colt is building to a win and looks well suited stepping up in trip to the 1550m.
He made good ground over the 1400m on the Kenso last start after being ridden cold from the wide draw.
He draws better this time and now stepping up in trip can sit closer in the run.
The 3rd place getter from that race Brigidine Girl was a subsequent winner at Rosehill on Wednesday, franking those form lines.
With a soft run in transit, he looks very well placed.
Race 4 #2 Celestial Fury $6.50
The weight of money arrived for him early, backed from $11's into $6.50 and there is no surprise given he's shown his best 4th up and beyond.
His last start at Wyong was his best of the prep and signalled he'd be competitive as his fitness improved.
Now near peak fitness and from the inside draw, look for Tim Clark to produce one of his customary front running rides and give a huge sight around the tight-turning Canterbury circuit.

Lay Betting Tips: who to avoid on the punt 16/11/24
This week we focus on two runners that come up good risks as over-bet favourites in their respective races.
At Caulfield a high-profile popular runner has been up and racing for an eternity this preparation, with the “Grad Final” run likely to have been last start in the Coolmore Stud Stakes, where far from impressive.
Whilst at Newcastle’s stand-alone Saturday meeting a popular rider/trainer combination has not been missed, however faces a tricky speed map for gate 1 and should struggle for racing room late.
Jimmy Beeson continues to nail his lays at a good rate.
Looking for more of his tips? His Early Market Movers drop Friday.
Horse Racing Lays on Saturday
Caulfield Race 4 #1 Coleman $2.60
Coleman has been the hyped three-year-old all Spring, yet has failed to deliver each time the market has backed him.
Admittedly, this race is a much easier assignment compared to his recent outings, as he’s dropping down from the elite Group 1 level of the Coolmore Stud Stakes.
However, I don’t believe this justifies his current short odds.
In the Coolmore, he looked like a tired horse, merely grinding to the line for a midfield finish (7th of 14) beaten decisively by over six lengths.
I suspect he was primed to peak in the Group 1 Stallion-making race, and this appears to be an afterthought run.
There’s a strong chance he’s on the decline now and may race flat.
The travel between Melbourne and Sydney this prep could also start to take its toll.
Around Caulfield's 1400m track, I expect those racing in forward positions to hold the upper hand, leaving Coleman as an excellent risk.
Avoid.
Newcastle Race 5 #5 Pippie Beach $2.50
Pippie Beach seems over-bet as the favourite in this race, likely due to the popular Waller/Nash trainer-rider combination.
She has been running at Benchmark level for several races now, and although she’s placed in her last two starts, the performances haven’t been particularly impressive.
In her last start at Rosehill she seemed to have every opportunity, settling just behind the leaders and benefiting from an ideal run.
Yet, she failed to fully let down and reel them in.
With no exceptional early speed, barrier 1 could be a disadvantage here.
She’s highly likely to be crossed early potentially ending up three-back along the rails, which could leave her short of racing room.
Traffic issues and a lack of genuine class to make her current price unfavourable.
Lay.

Lay.

Lay.

Betting Tips: Early Market Movers at Caulfield and Newcastle 16/11/24 |
|

Horse Racing Tips for The Hunter & Beauford 2024 |
|

Lay Betting Tips: who to avoid on the punt 16/11/24 |
|
This week we focus on two runners that come up good risks as over-bet favourites in their respective races.
At Caulfield a high-profile popular runner has been up and racing for an eternity this preparation, with the “Grad Final” run likely to have been last start in the Coolmore Stud Stakes, where far from impressive.
Whilst at Newcastle’s stand-alone Saturday meeting a popular rider/trainer combination has not been missed, however faces a tricky speed map for gate 1 and should struggle for racing room late.
Jimmy Beeson continues to nail his lays at a good rate.
