A new star is born
The Northerly Stakes, formerly known as the Kingston Town Classic, is one of Perth’s most prestigious Group 1 events.
This 1800m contest at Ascot concludes the feature race season, following the Railway Stakes and Winterbottom Stakes.
A quality field and a moderate tempo are expected to make this a tactical and exciting race.
I've found a runner who has come up over the odds and can mark herself as a real star of the future.

Track Conditions
The race will be run on a Good track with the rail out 9m.
This can favour on-speed runners, as horses closer to the rail often gain an advantage, particularly in the early and middle stages.
I expect those settling forward of midfield with cover to have the best opportunities to win.
The Map
A moderate tempo is predicted, with Marocchino (13) and Admiration Express (11) expected to lead the field, with Socks Nation (8) getting a great run in behind.
Midfield runners like Bustler (3), Attrition (5), and Light Infantry Man (15) will aim for tactical positions to stay within striking range.
Backmarkers like Storyville (16) and Super Smink (14) will need to navigate traffic and produce a strong turn of foot to contend late.
The Favourite
#2 Attrition - $4.40
While Attrition brings solid credentials to this race, the step up to 1800m and barrier 5 could see him overexert early in a moderately run race.
He mixes his form like a yo-yo and the travel, plus a new track appears to be negatives to my eye.
Tips
1st – #16 Storyville $4.60
The lightweight filly from Grant & Alana Williams’ yard is perfectly placed with just 50kg.
Barrier 1 gives William Pike the opportunity to hug the rail and produce a perfectly timed sprint.
While this is a rise in class, her sharp turn of foot and ability to save ground make her a serious winning chance.
2nd – #7 Democracy Manifest $7.00
With a favorable draw and Zahra’s experience, the Waller-trained galloper will likely settle in a perfect stalking position.
He’s got the class to figure prominently, and his turn of foot is proven in strong fields.
3rd – #14 Super Smink $5.00
Chris Parnham combines with Daniel Morton for this talented mare, who continues to impress this preparation.
Barrier 6 allows her to find a midfield position and unleash her powerful late sprint.
Her progression through the grades suggests she’s ready for a peak performance in Group 1 company.
4th – #12 Zipaway $21.00
Neville Parnham’s gelding is ultra-consistent and looks well-suited at 1800m.
Steven Parnham aboard from barrier 4 ensures he’ll get a soft run midfield.
He’s a great value pick for trifectas and first fours.
