Gator's Saturday Best Bets
All ratings for Ballarat Cup Day are based on a Soft track, with weather predictions varying between meteorological sources.
One forecast predicts 20–40mm of rain on Friday with minimal rain on Saturday, while another suggests just 0–8mm Friday and 0–10mm Saturday.
The rail is in the True position, moving in from 10m at the previous meeting.
Last time, the entire track was utilised, but the inside lanes held up well, with the final winner railing through to edge out a rival that scouted wide.
In Sydney, it’s Rosehill, where all ratings are based on a Good track.
The rail is out 4m this week.
Last week, the rail was in the True position on wet ground, and runners moved off the inside quickly, suggesting a similar trend may occur on Saturday.
David Gately Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets 7/12/24
Bet of the Day (Melbourne)
Ballarat – Race 2 No.3 – Dream All Day
Dream All Day looks like a promising mare ready to deliver again.
She was heavily backed to win her maiden first-up and justified that support, bolting in despite an awkward start that cost her several lengths.
Her last 400m sectional and overall time were impressive, indicating she has genuine ability.
At the end of her last preparation, she produced a strong performance in 3YO Open class at Flemington, underlining her class.
With fitness on her side now and proven form, she should be hard to beat here.
Bet of the Day (Sydney)
Rosehill – Race 10 No.5 – Midnight Opal
Midnight Opal looks well-placed in this race after some luckless performances.
Second-up, she ran home strongly despite encountering limited luck at a key stage.
Last start, blinkers were added, and she raced closer to the speed, finishing behind the talented I’mintowin, who ran earlier on the card.
Although no match for the winner, she beat the rest in record time.
This race looks winnable, and with the right run, Midnight Opal has a strong chance to break through.
